Hurricane Fiona hit Puerto Rico on Sunday and made landfall in the Dominican Republic on September 19. More than 1.3 million people are without access to energy, and heavy rains continue. Parts of the island received nearly 30 inches of rain, and the National Weather Service is warning of ‘life-threatening and catastrophic flooding,’ as well as the possibility of mudslides and landslides.
Hurricane Fiona became a Category 1 hurricane on Sunday morning, after reaching Puerto Rico as a tropical storm. It made landfall in Puerto Rico two days before the 5-year mark of when Hurricane Maria hit the island, which left much devastation in its wake.
