Role-based access control, or RBAC, is a security model that restricts network access for users based on their roles within an organization. RBAC assigns permissions to specific job roles rather than individual users. This ensures that employees only have access to the data and applications they need to do their jobs. It prevents them from accessing sensitive information that is not relevant to their roles.
For example, an administrator would have full access, while a customer service representative would only have access to customer data. Defining roles and permissions this way minimizes the potential damage from security breaches by limiting access. RBAC can help organizations improve compliance, reduce complexity, and secure sensitive data.
