Striking doctors are holding rallies in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi. That comes after a judge sentenced to jail officials from the national doctor's union. Medical staff have been on strike for more than 70 days. They want the government to implement a deal agreed in 2013. That agreement promises healthcare professional a 150 to 180 percent pay rise and a review of working conditions. However, the government maintains it can only afford a 40 percent pay rise. The judge has declared the industrial action illegal, saying healthcare professionals provide an essential service. Members of the public have expressed their anger over the ruling. University lecturers are also striking over pay, deepening a political crisis ahead of the general elections in August this year.
