Our webinar on November 29, 2022 explored Ocean Week Canada's 'Postsecondary & Early Career Toolkit', an online resource that features career pathways and professional networks in the ocean sector, as well as information on ocean health and sustainability. The session included a brief overview of how to engage with the toolkit led by Ashley Bowes (Education Coordinator, Early Career Ocean Professionals Canada) and Mauricio Carrasquilla (Postsecondary Education Coordinator, ONC), as well as a guest panel discussion and a Q&A period!
Meet the guest speakers who joined us:
Aneri Garg is a Marine Ecologist, Science Communicator, Artist & Climate Organizer based in Bamfield, BC. Her work with BMSC, IMPAC5 Protecting Blue Nature podcast, and the Canadian Ocean Literacy Coalition allow her to amplify stories of diversity, hope & resilience in the marine sector using an intersectional Ocean Justice lens.
Ken Paul is a member of the Wolastoqey First Nation in the community of Neqotkuk. Over the past 10 years, he has held positions with the Wolastoq Nation of New Brunswick, Assembly of First Nations and the Atlantic Policy Congress of First Nations Chiefs. He has advocated for First Nations on all aspects relating to fisheries, aquaculture, ocean protection and aquatic resources as they relate to inherent aboriginal and treaty-protected rights, governance, legislation, and policy.
Ronnie Noonan-Birch considers herself a Steward of the Earth. During her BSc in marine biology and her experiences working in marine conservation, Ronnie gained a first-hand understanding of the threats facing our ocean today. She is a proud member of the ECOP Canada Steering Committee.
