The discrete element method (DEM) is widely used to model particle interaction. Recently, it has been used extensively to simulate the compaction ratio in powder bed fusion additive manufacturing.
The set-up is simple, and simulation is fast, and the results strongly corroborate with the experimental measurements. The open-source and commercially available software can accurately simulate powder compaction using different blades configuration from soft to hard blades with different shapes.
