This is the world record buck shot with a muzzleloader. 15-year-old Tony Lovstuen shot this monster in September of 2003 in Albia, Iowa.
This buck was a world record before it was even shot though. In Feb. 2002, North American Whitetail published an article about the buck, deeming it Iowa's Walking World Record.
On Sept. 29, Tony shot the massive buck during Iowa’s special youth muzzleloader season. With 38 scoreable points, the massive rack received a "green" B&C score of 322 4/8.
After the 60-day drying period though, a panel of measurers later reduced the Lovstuen buck's final score to 307 5/8, which was still enough to make him the "world's biggest hunter-taken whitetail."
There is a little-known fact about the buck though. In an article published by Bill Winke, he wrote about a professional poacher that had his eye on the buck. Apparently, a man from Colorado with the last name of Waters was patrolling the area in southern Iowa where the Albia buck was located prior to Tony shooting the buck.
Had Tony not shot the buck in September, the story of the alia buck, better known as the Tony Lovstuen buck, may have been told differently.
