There's a ton of nineteenth-century violin repertoire, but the number of concertos that have made it into the pantheon of universally acknowledged great pieces is surprisingly small. Here is a consistently strong list of the seven great romantic violin concertos (Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Bruch, Dvořák, Tchaikovsky, Brahms and Sibelius), played by seven great violinists--and some of them aren't even dead!
