China's semiconductor index surged to nearly a three-year high, driven by market expectations that a recent U.S. order halting shipments of chips to Chinese customers from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) could expedite Beijing's efforts to become more self-reliant in semiconductor production. The move has heightened speculation that China will focus on developing its own chip manufacturing capabilities.
