Crunchyroll just removed their comment section, sparking yet another controversy in the anime community.
I only made this video because I care about Crunchyroll and hope they do better.
Crunchyroll (a company that started out as an anime-pirating website) now plays an important role in popularizing anime in the west. However, their business practices are less than acceptable. Translators are being paid unethical wages, despite the company seeing record profits every year. User info is being secretly sold to various companies. And the subscription fee remains the same, despite community features constantly being removed. The latest of which being the comment section.
I always found the Crunchyroll comments enjoyable to read after finishing an episode because I was curious to see how others reacted to it. And sometimes the comments would even point out hidden details or offer insights I hadn't considered. The spoiler/hate comments were few and far between until just recently, but this entire problem could be rectified if Crunchyroll (worth $1.75 billion) hires just a couple moderators to clean up their comment section. Instead, they opted to remove it entirely. I hope Crunchyroll reverses this decision, but I don't exactly have much faith in this company at this point.
