In US news and current events today, the VR rendering was created using a CAT scan of a patient who is being treated for COVID-19 at George Washington University Hospital. The blue shows the healthy parts of the patient’s lungs, and the yellow shows the parts of the lungs that have been damaged by COVID-19. Dr. Keith Mortman, the chief of thoracic surgery at GW Hospital, worked with a company called Surgical Theater to create the VR rendering.
The rendering is based off a patient in his late 50s whose only underlying condition is high blood pressure. Mortman says everyone should be concerned about the virus, regardless of their age. Dr. Mortman says that he hopes images like this will help educate the public.
