History of Kachakanti Temple Udharband

Sri Kachakanti Devi Temple is one of the most believed and honored temples in South Assam. The Kachakanti Mandir has an environment that is very peaceful. Because it is believed by many, that this temple can fulfill the wishes of the devotees. The surrounding of the temple is well maintained. It is neat and clean and has greenery all around it. The temple premise has all the basic facilities, provided by the temple authority, such as washroom drinking water and lockers, for the visitors. It is believed that the Goddess Kachakanti is a glamorous and graceful combination of two Hindu goddesses, Maa Durga and Maa Kali. Both are considered as very powerful Goddesses, who represent the empowerment of ‘Shakti’. Goddess Kachakanti’s appearance itself showcases the emblem of power and grace, with four arms, and each arms carrying a sword, a severed head, etc. The goddess is described as the spouse of Lord Shiva, on whose body the goddess is seen standing. The Hindu mythology says that the Goddess was in anger and so, Lord Shiva, her husband had to lie down on her way, in order to stop her from demolishing the world with her anger. Some folk stories also say that in this temple human sacrifice was practiced.
The Silchar Kachakanti Mandir was constructed around the 19th century. It was constructed by the Kachari King. It is believed that he took the initiative of building this temple in the year 1806 after he received command by the goddess in his dream. Local people also believe that previously, there was a four-armed idol of goddess Kachakanti made of gold in the temple, which was presented by the Kachari Dynasty. However, the temple got destroyed due to various natural disasters. But, later in the year 1978, it was renovated. The present temple is a new one, and many changes were made in the temple in all these years. However, the temple still holds the same value as it had in the past.
The best time to visit this place is during the daytime from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm as the crowd is moderate during these hours. Sri Kachakanti Devi Mandir remains open from 5:00 am to 9:00 pm everyday, throughout the year.
