An day out to Orford Castle Keep, Suffolk.
What is the difference between a Castle & a Keep? A Keep is a type of fortified tower built within castles.
Built in the 12th century by Henry II, it would have been surrounded by a curtain wall of which is all but gone, a small section of ruins remain visible.
It is a very impressive sight & is remarkably intact. The dungeon once held the wild man of orford, a Merman captured by local fishermen & imprisoned for 6 months before his escape, leaving behind nothing but a blunt gillette, a copy of Aquaman & the smell of fish*
*Thats what I like to believe, but I'm not Tony Robinson so what do I know.
