All eyes are on Delhi, as the crucial Monsoon Session of Parliament gets under way from July 18th. Coming at a time when the relations between the Treasury and the Opposition benches have hit a new low, Govt is going all out to ensure that it is not a washout just like the Budget Session. PM Modi himself has taken the lead in reaching out to Opposition leaders, requesting them to facilitate the passage of crucial Bills. But going by the signs, it is not going to be easy. Leaders of Opposition parties, including the Congress, met on July 17th to discuss the strategy to put the Govt on the mat over burning issues like mob lynching, atrocities against women and Dalits and rising unemployment. At stake is the fate of more than 45 bills, including the one on triple talaq. When it comes to building bridges with the Opposition parties, Modi Govt's record is less than impressive.
