DON’T VISIT UYUNI WITHOUT THESE 10 TRAVEL TIPS! 😍
- Do you want the mirror effect (💦 November - April) or the crystalized salt (☀️ May—October)? This will help you decide the time of year to go. Beware that during the rainy season, you may not be able to reach some destinations.
- Most people fly into La Paz ✈️, where you must take a flight or overnight bus to Uyuni. Some tours begin in La Paz, which can ease travel planning.
- Read Trip Advisor, Viator, or Getting Your Guide reviews to book a reputable tour company. Different tours offer different amenities, too, so do your research 🤔
- A one-day tour will allow you to see all the salt flat attractions, but a multiday trip will allow you to experience even more of Bolivia, including lagoons, flamingos, and geysers 🦩⛰️
- You will need to pay to use the bathroom, typically 2 - 5 bolivianos peruse, and it's always a good idea to carry TP with you in Bolivia 🚽🧻
- The days are action-packed, so bring snacks and water with you. Along the way, you will pass towns where you can buy more water and snacks 💧🥪
- It is warm during the day, but at night, it gets cold 🥶, especially at high elevations, and some accommodations do not have heating.
- Most multi-day tours offer transfers to Chile on the last day, making it easy and convenient 🇨🇱
- The salt flats are at 12,000 feet in elevation ⛰️, and other locations are even higher. Altitude sickness is not uncommon for travelers. Give yourself some time to acclimate and drink lots of water!!
- Cards are rarely used in this rural part of Uyuni, and you will need to pay entrance fees and any other goodies you may want on your trip with cash 💵🪙
