VIRGIN GALACTIC
The ultimate travel destination has opened up, just in time for the school holidays - Space. After nearly 20 years of development and testing, Virgin Galactic' rocket plan called Unity took off from spaceport America in new Mexico last night with it's first paying customers on board. They soared up to 279,000 feet or about 85 kays above the earth. But they weren't just there for a joyride. The passengers were three Italian researchers who used the 72-minute mission to study things like physical responses and brain function in zero gravity. They also had a fair bit of fun. But it's not cheap... a ticket will cost you $678,835.35 and there's already a big queue of people waiting for a ride. 800 people have booked a ticket for upcoming missions and Virgin Galactic are now working on building a fleet of rocket planes to eventually make 400 flights per year.
MELBOURNE EARTHQUAKE
At about 1.30 in the morning there was a 4.7 magnitude earthquake near Rawson, which is about 127 kays out of the city. Luckily though there were no reports of damage - just some disturbed sleep.
TERRITORY DAY
Tomorrow is Territory Day, the anniversary of the NT getting to govern itself, and this is how Territorians celebrate. It's the only time and place that Australians can buy and light fireworks without a permit. But authorities are also warning people to be careful and to look after your dogs because they don't like loud bangs.
SEA TURTLE
Eileen the green sea turtle is pretty happy and healthy now, but two weeks ago she looked and smelt a lot worse. She had hooks in her and was wrapped up in fishing lines. Stray fishing lines are actually a huge threat to turtles like Eileen, because they can get caught up in them, which can make it hard to move or swim and can cause some serious injuries. Luckily for Eileen, she was rescued and brought to an animal hospital in Palmerston. Her front flipper had to be amputated, she made a full recovery and yesterday she was treated to a massive send off on Darwin's Casuarina Beach as she headed back home to the ocean.
HIGH HEEL RACE
A high heel running race has taken place in Madrid as part of their pride celebrations. The event sees athletes from across the globe compete. There are some rules. For starters all heels must be at least 4 inches high and participants must also pick up a purse and a dress along the way.
GRANDPARENTS RACE
From high heels to some sensible runners, it's time for a grandparents race. Replacing horses on the Emerald Down racecourse in Washington in the US, Grandparents competed in a 37 metre race. While some took a bit of a tumble, nothing was stopping Steve Butler who took home the winning title.
TINY BAG
The race was on to buy a teeny tiny hand bag. Smaller than a grain of salt, a 3D printed Louis Vuitton handbag was created by New York based Art Collection MSCHF and recently sold at an auction for more than $90,000.
