In 2018, UN Women Sri Lanka organized a panel discussion with the aim of increasing awareness and promoting discussion on women migrant workers’ multi-faceted contributions throughout the migration cycle, particularly focusing on the Sri Lankan women migrant workers in the Middle East. Often women migrant workers are viewed only through a lens of victimhood, yet this discussion aimed at also highlighting their roles as agents of change. It emphasized that when migration is safe, gender-responsive and free of discrimination, migration outcomes for women, as well as their significant contributions, can be further enhanced.
