A word of advice before you tackle Tasmania’s world-renowned Lost Farm golf course at Barnbougle…
Come prepared for the full spectrum of weather.
Wide fairways on the first few holes offer a gentle start.
The short par-three fourth is Lost Farm’s signature hole – perched between the coastline and the river mouth. Remember to aim slightly right and use the slope to bounce your ball left.
The dogleg right par-four fifth is more menacing. No need to be a hero and drive over the mounds to the right. A driver or even a three-wood just to the left of the mounds will do fine.
Resisting the temptation to play aggressively is also advised at the short par-4 14th.
If you’re laying back and to the left, the fairway is very generous. Taking driver is only an advantage if you’re willing to challenge the right bunkers – the risk generally isn’t worth the reward.
At the uphill par-3 17th, take half a club more than you think to cover the sand short of the green. It’s hard to go long with the green sloped heavily from back to front.
Lost Farm – unusually – has 20 holes with two optional short par-threes on the back nine.
There’s hole 13a and, just a stone’s throw from the sports bar, hole 18a – a perfect place for a final hole shootout and a friendly wager to finish the round.
And after a pitstop in the sports bar, reward yourself with a walk up the hill to the Lost Farm restaurant high above the world-class Lost Farm course below.
