In today's video we are talking about Sophia of Hanover. Her name perhaps does not ring any bells. That is because she is not as well known as other European Princesses. The reason she deserves a whole video to herself is because she plays a significant role in European history. To be a bit more clearer: in British history and in the British line of succession up until this very day. Namely Sophia was elected in 1701 to inherit the crowns of England and Ireland. In addition it was declared that from then on every person in the line of succession must be of protestant faith and - this is what makes her interesting - descend from Sophia. Today I am telling you the story of how a lesser known Princess of the Palatinate became the matriarch to the British Royal family.
