In this short tutorial, I'm going to show you how you can use the shooting date information embedded in your file names to set the EXIF DateTimeOriginal timestamp to ensure that your photos are sorting correctly in photo management tools such as Apple Photos and Adobe Lightroom.
At the end of the tutorial, I'll also show you how to do the reverse: embedded the DateTimeOriginal already present in your photo files into your file names, as a way of making sure that this information will not be lost during your image processing workflow, or simply to make your photo files easier to manage on the file system.
I'll be using my A Better Finder Attributes 7 tool for the Macintosh to set the DateTimeOriginal from the dates in the file names:

and my A Better Finder Rename 11 tool to embed existing DateTimeOriginal timestamps into your file names.
