Heavy metal has certainly seen its share of influential bands that helped craft the genre into what it is today. With so many great names, pinning down the top 10 can be a difficult process. However, the bands in this list have done more for metal than most, even if in the case of some, the sales don't showcase that fact. These groups help shape key sub-genres while also furthering the core metal genre of music, and their influence is still felt to this day. Without them, we would be without many of the groups we love and enjoy as metalheads.
