The Ayyubids were known for the production of enameled glass. After their reign ended, the Mamluks furthered the tradition of glass production in Egypt and Syria, creating new techniques for applying enamel. Margaret Shortle, Context Curator for the Museum of Islamic Art at the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, shares the history behind this unique glass production and the iconography of Polo, an ancient game of kings.
