In this video the “Yeastie Boys” Dennis and Jon, brew a Schwarzbier, Dark Lager. We had WAY TOO MUCH FUN brewing and filming this one as part of a Fantasy Beer Draft Competition. How did we do? Check out this grain to glass video and see!
“No Sleep til BREW-klyn” Schwarzbier Recipe ( 5.5 Gallons):
Grains:
Dark Munich Malt 4.5 lbs. (42.9%)
Golden Promise Malt (2-row) 4 lbs. (38.1%)
Flaked Rice 1.0 lbs. (9.5%)
Aromatic Malt 0.5 lbs. (4.8%)
Carafa III Malt 0.5 lbs. (4.8%)
**Chocolate Malt** (optional see notes below replacing cacao nibs) 0.25%
Mash Temp: 152F for 60 minutes
Hops (90 minute boil):
Cascade 1 oz. 60 mins
CTZ Hops 1 oz. 5 mins
Whirlfloc Tablet (optional) 1 tablet 10 mins left in boil
Yeast Nutrient (optional) 1 Tbsp 10 mins left in boil
Cacao Nibs 3oz 5 mins left (I suggest skipping this and adding 5 oz in secondary or adding chocolate malt listed above).
Yeast:
Saflager 34/70
