The International Committee of the Red Cross on Friday delivered the first load of food to the isolated rural community of Ainaro in East Timor.
Many of the people living in the town have until now, not seen any sign of aid or the international peacekeeping force and they met the aid with delight.
Many of the people in the remote town have been living on what ever food they could find.
Some of the villages spoke of their experiences at the hands of militiamen who they said destroyed the town.
One woman told A-P-T-N that the most important thing now is for the U-N force to send troops to the area for security because the people in the village fear further attacks from anti-independence militia forces.
