Brattleboro Retreat (mental hospital) - Brattleboro, Vermont

Private mental hospital (founded 1834; 620 + acres) at the confluence of the West and Connecticut Rivers. Land and buildings included walking trails, a patient-built tower, and a farm for occupational/physical exercise benefits as well as hospital self-sufficiency. The tower is in the wooded area to the west of the main hospital. The farm (currently a children's museum plus a gourmet cheese factory) is to the north and west of the main hospital.
