This is an older style emergency telephone found on UK motorways and occasionally on A roads. This style of box were mostly replaced in the early 2000 along the motorways but some still remain on A roads. They used to have wall mounted GPO 746 phones in them without a dial but this one has been replaced with a Gai-Tronics phone.
