No back up weapon, on the ground face to face with spear in hand was one of those intense hunts I’ve ever been apart of. Many people don’t know this, but I was an All American Javelin Thrower in college and still am the university record holder for that event. I spent years training throwing those “spears” and my dream was to hunt a bear with one. On this day, I accomplished a life long dream of doing just that. This beast measured over 7’ and is the largest black bear I’ve ever harvested with any weapon and I couldn’t be more proud of this Achievement. For everyone that remembers this throw, probably doesn’t remember it for the hunt, but remembers it for the world wide backlash we received from this. However, what I remember most is the entire hunting community coming together to fight the enemy. Standing up against the antis and woke mind set, showing big corporations not to mess with us. I miss those days of the community, the rallying around each other. Now it feels more like we’re all fighting one another and attacking our fellow hunting brothers. We need to get back to supporting each other, regardless whether we use a rifle, a crossbow, or even a spear. Let’s cheer each other on and keep our hunting community together. Collectively we’re stronger and harder to kill that way. Unity needs to be the focus, not hate.
