From an underground World War II air raid shelter to a high-tech vertical farming project. Zero Carbon Farms grows herbs and salads 30 metres underground using a kilometre of tunnels in London. Seeds are sowed on carpet offcuts, so there is no soil used. Its subterranean location also means it is insulated from the cold, and uses around 90% less water and fertiliser than typical agriculture.
