In late 2020, I applied to the Arts Council of Northern Ireland's Musical Instruments for Musicians scheme. It had been a tough year, and when I saw the open application, I thought why not try?

The application was thorough, and with a lot of help from friends & family writing CV's, proof reading biographies, and generally just being really supportive, I was successful!! I'm delighted to say I was awarded the full amount of the award, to the sum of £10'000.

A dream of mine has always been to own my own set of pedal Timpani. An instrument incredibly hard to come by outside of a professional setting. Well now they are not, and they are sitting at home in my studio in Enniskillen, Co.Fermanagh!!

A massive thank you to Tony @ Jam Percussion for supplying the drums, and a most importantly, to my parents for supporting throughout this pandemic, and also helping me subsidise the remaining cost required to purchase the Timpani.

Tchaikovsky Symphony No.4 in F Minor, 1st Movement, Timpani extract.

Note; for those Timpani players that may be familiar with the notation of this passage. I have, in this instance, played the ‘dots’ as per the part I had to hand. In the past, and indeed future, I normally alter the part by substituting the last ‘A’ in bar 340 to a ‘C’.
