This video is to bring you a closer look at the National Guard 199NDKB. This is a door sweep obviously but I suppose it could also be an astragal, but a door sweep is really what this is going to be used for. The "199" is representative of this profile. It is an aluminum extrusion with a large seal material. The "N" means neoprene and that is what this material is made out of. It smells a bit like car rubber tires, car tires, whatever. The "DKB" is a reference to the finish, dark bronze. If you wanted the aluminum finish, it would be the 199NA. Again, used for a door sweep. A sweep like this is going to be used in typically a commercial application where you have a high amount of volume. You might have a restaurant door where the proprietor says, " I need something heavy duty, I need something that is going to seal", you might be in a very cold climate and neoprene is tried and true, tested to be effective that sort of thing. The dark bronze is certainly something that you could use to complement any sort of dark bronze hardware or even an aluminum storefront but neoprene is very much less common on aluminum door store front type materials. Or you might have a residential application and just want something quite heavy duty in terms of neoprene, but also the size. There is an image below this video that shows everything important dimensionally about the item and lets go over that now. First of all, your overall height looks like it is 2-7/16" and per the drawing it is 2-7/16". It is coming up a little shy here on that. The extrusion itself, they've got at an 1-1/4" and it looks like it is closer to 1-3/16". 1-3/16" they show for the drawing of the neoprene itself and that is coming up a little short on that as well. This is a real 199 and it measures about an 1/8" short I would say. Available in several different lengths on the website. If you have need for a custom length. Again, available in several different lengths on the website. If you have need for a custom length, by all means let us know by ordering the next longest piece or pieces and indicate in the comment field what length you would like for us to cut the material back to. The reasoning is if you had to take this 48" piece and cut it down to say 44", you would eliminate this slotted hole that is right there and the next one is all the way over here. It is naturally difficult to drill a slotted hole, especially since you have to drill through the back of the neoprene. That slotted hole there is specifically intended to allow some margin if you've got a sill that is not level, or a door that is not plumb. Also, it will help compensate for a miss drilled hole. When you are pre-drilling your holes into the wood, aluminum, fiberglass, steel obviously, the drill bit has a tendency to walk a little bit if you have not used a center punch and that slotted hole will help compensate for that as well. In my experience, when you are using something so thick, so heavy duty, that if you get the installation of the door sweep not perfect this will either bind causing a condition by which your door closer may not operate properly anymore, or may not automatically close the door. It might create a condition where you've really got to pull the door closed and will obviously fatigue the sweep prematurely when you are doing that. If you can get an exact size or at least very close to it, you would get those countersinks in the proper location from the edge and the proper center to center as well. Any questions on this or any other National Guard product, please feel free to reach out to us. Thank you.
