Food insecurity, or hunger, is intricately connected to poverty and inequality, and it can have negative short- and long-term impacts on individual and community health. Addressing food insecurity requires holistic and innovative approaches that address not only emergency needs but also advance long-term solutions.
In 2017, United Way launched a community food systems initiative in North Minneapolis called Full Lives. Informed by the community, we teamed up with nonprofit leaders to address inequitable food access in the region. The Full Lives approach has been so successful that other communities including Buffalo, NY and Toronto, Canada have launched similar programs in partnership with their local United Ways.
Join us for a panel discussion featuring North Minneapolis and national community food systems experts who will share reflections from their work and their vision for advancing equity and food justice.
