A Fort Hood official says Ivan Lopez, the shooter in the attack at the Army base, was being assessed for whether he had PTSD.
Lt. Gen. Mark A. Milley said Wednesday that four people were killed including the shooter and 16 others were wounded in the attack. He says the wounded were all military members.
Milley says there is no indication the shooting was related to terrorism.
He says the shooter is married and served in Iraq in 2011.
Dr. Charles Marmar, New York University Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry, says that it's too soon to make any specific statements about the mental state of Lopez.
Marmar said, "We do know in general that war fighter who have stress, anxiety, depression, especially when complicated by depression, are at greater risk of self harm, much less commonly harm to anyone else."
"Are there are clear clues that someone is really going to lose control and commit a large scale violent act? In this case we have no idea," Marmar said.
