6 December 2025, marks 30 years since the passing of the late SACP leader Joe Slovo.
As the South African Communist Party, commemorates his life, some remember him as a dedicated revolutionary who was committed not only to the liberation of the country but as a man who played a pivotal role in building the tripartite alliance.
In reflecting on what Slovo stood for, some believe that he would have lamented the triple challenges of unemployment, inequality and poverty that the majority of South Africans live under.
His commemoration takes place at a time when the SACP has finalised the modalities of contesting the 2026 polls alone.
