This journey in Kashmir was very different from anything I've undertaken in the valley before. I travelled with the locals, like a local, in a local train to South Kashmir. The journey from Srinagar to Banihal takes approximately 2 hours on it's 78 km. ride and a one way ticket cost Rs. 20. This is the cheapest & quickest mode of transport that takes you from North to South Kashmir & vice versa. Banihal is in Ramban district of Jammu region.

To get to Srinagar station in Nowgam, Cabs, Auto and share Sumo are easily available. There are about 11 trains that run daily on this route. The train journey is through the beautiful countryside with backdrops of snow clad mountains of the Pir Panjal range & landscapes that turn lush green in the spring & summer months. This route has the longest train tunnel in the country at 11.2 kms long, which also makes it Asia's third longest railway tunnel.
