George Lerakis talks about how healthy out of school student life has positive impact in school achievement. He claims that the tips he is about to share are supported by a lot of research in the educational community. Research in fields like nutrition, academic counseling support everything Lerakis is about to say. But he claims that he has tried these tips with former students of him that he coached and have seen increase in their academic achievement from 25-50%.
Lerakis continues that these tips deal with the body the soul and the spirit of the student.
Regarding the body:
a) students have to eat all variety of foods in the proportion that exist in nature. Local and seasonal whenever and wherever possible. Also the student should eat food that grows in the area that he/she presently lives but also in the place that the student"s roots are.
b) the student should exercise about 1.5 hours per day outside whenever and wherever possible involving in activities and exercises for the whole body.
c) sleep about 8 hours daily preferably at night.
d) whenever there is a sunny time intervals with a temperature about 23 degrees C (73 degrees F) sunbath.
e) drink about 8-10 glasses of water per day.
Regarding the soul:
a) the student can enjoy about 1.5 hours per day watching TV,. Non violent and non explicit subjects. Comedy, sports, music. Also avoid watching news and pop culture magazines.
b) spent 45 minutes per day with friends and 45 minutes with family. It is very important specifically for first year university students that studying away from their hometown.
Regarding the spirit:
a) student should try studying about 9.5 hours per day preferably in daylight and close to nature.
Finally Lerakis concludes saying that this is a general framework for a full time student at high school, college or university student.
