We discovered "Whistling Tom" twenty-five years ago at the legendary Captain Tony's Saloon in Key West, host and home to Hemmingway, Jimmy Buffett, Jerry-Jeff Walker, David Allen Coe, and other talents who we still hear today.
As we sat at the bar visiting with the legendary Captain Tony, from out of nowhere, a whistling angel in white appeared and began to whistle the standards. I picked up the video camera from the bar, and turned the show over to the so-likable "Whistling Tom" Bryant (whistlingtom.com).
With his home now in St. Petersburg, Florida, the whistling virtuoso entertains publicly at community events, fundraisers and festivals, and performs private shows for senior centers, veterans' facilities and civic associations. Tom was awarded the honor of "Whistling Entertainer of the year 2007" by his peers at the International Whistlers Convention; and he's not just whistling "Dixie."
