How OVERRATED Is Trevor Lawrence Actually?
Trevor Lawrence was the first overall pick in the 2021 draft, and no one raised an eyebrow. Even after a subpar career start, the Jaguars are now delivering $55 million to his doorstep annually, making him tied for the second highest-paid player in the league. But with a career quarterback rating of 84.6, he’s far below the elite quarterbacks.
He’s shown glimpses of greatness, but they’re merely sprinkles on an overwhelmingly bland scoop of a career. After three seasons in the NFL, Trevor Lawrence now leads multiple turnover categories. The data even suggests that he should not be the starter on his own team right now. So, how overrated is Trevor Lawrence actually?
It seems so long ago, but during his time at Clemson, Lawrence was unstoppable. In 2019, he led the ACC in passing yards, completion percentage, and yards per attempt. The next year, he led the ACC in completion percentage again and by the end of the season he received the second most Heisman votes. The tape of the 6-foot-6, fast, agile quarterback with a bazooka for an arm was undeniable. Where did it all go wrong? Entering the draft, everyone was calling him a generational talent. Then again, how often do we hear those buzz words used?
