The nursing profession is a big part of modern healthcare today and the biggest reason for that is due to the tireless work of its founder, Florence Nightingale. She is credited with giving nursing a favorable reputation, which made her an icon of Victorian culture. Nightingale rose to prominence when she became a manager and trainer of nurses during the Crimean War in the 1850s. But for all her tireless work, she ironically suffered from many health ailments herself. Nightingale was also known to be a recluse and shunned away media attention. The Lady of the Lamp may have helped countless souls, but she unfortunately also had her fair share of tragedy.
