Here we have a copy of `Awake` by Canadian Psych/Prog band `Jackal` released on the Periwinkle Label (PER 7309). The label was established by Art Snider in 1973 for his Sound Canada Recording Centre studio. As with smaller labels in the 70`s there was minimal promotion so the album didnt sell well making the original Canadian issue a rarity today. Compared by some to Deep Purple, Budgie musically, a top copy sold for £475 in 2020, any decent copy should fetch around a £100 - £200.

In the late 1960s, Chris and James Kellesis formed a hard progressive-psych band called Jackal in Toronto. Organist Chris Kellesis and brother James wrote the material and were joined by singer Charlie Shannon and guitarist Dave Bernard for their only LP 'Awake', released on obscure Canadian label Periwinkle in 1973. With the band rounded out by guitarists Steve Hayward and Dave Bernard, and drummer Lois Mutton, they worked with producers Dan Goldberg and Bob Stright in the spring of '73. They became one of the first acts to record for Snider's new venture, Periwinkle Records, releasing their debut album, Awake a few months later. Within a year or so of its release, the band also drifted into oblivion, with the members picking up new gigs in different bands off and on, but then eventually all got day jobs and left the business all together.
