This Hawaiian love song was the most famous composition by Queen Lili’uokalani, Hawai’i’s last monarch. She wrote this song in 1878 on the way home from a horseback riding trip on Oahu Island as she witnessed two lovers in a fond embrace. Aloha ‘Oe is the first Hawaiian song to be recognized outside of the Hawaiian Islands and the only song to have its lyrics etched in stone.
