This is a DIY car camper setup. It took almost nothing to complete and was very easy to do with only a few tools. Converting the car into a camper was a great decision because now we have options as to where we sleep and when.
Turning our Corolla into a car camper has been well worth it. We were looking for a great way to get out camping and exploring Ontario on a reasonable budget. We have a 2016 Toyota Corolla that we made into a small camper we can use for sleeping. Car camping great way to be able to maintain mobility while adventuring. This also makes it comfortable and easy to sleep in your car.
I feared it would be cramped but sleeping in the car is actually very nice. There is plenty of space to stretch out and relax when needed.

The first step is to remove the back seats from the car as well as the belts. After emptying the rear of the car camper I then added a very simple wood deck. There is a very simple frame system below the sleeping platform. The front portion slides forward then secures using buckle clasps. The rear side that is in the trunk is hinged so it can be easily lifted to get to the spare tire as well as the storage space under it. I wasn't going through the trouble of removing the seat latches from the car during the car camper build so we use a simple pool noodle to add some cushion if we bump it.
The car is setup pretty nicely to sleep in while camping and even in daily use we just keep the car like this. Now we don’t get to say that we are living the vanlife but it’s pretty much the same, just smaller as the Toyota Corolla car camper conversion does limit you on space.
