This gula melaka agar agar recipe is a malaysian jelly dessert that is both sweet and creamy. Also vegan and vegetarian friendly as there is no egg and no gelatin used. Gula melaka (or palm sugar) has great depth of sweetness compared to brown sugar which complements the fragrance of santan (coconut milk) and pandan perfectly in this easy and highly refreshing dessert recipe.

The full recipe is below

100g gula melaka
1 pandan leaf
5g agar agar powder
¼ tsp salt
450ml water
100ml coconut milk
Mix gula melaka, pandan leaf, agar agar powder, salt, and water over low medium heat until dissolved.
Bring to boil then add coconut milk and mix until well combined.
Bring to boil and allow to boil for 2 mins.
Briefly stir then strain into any heat resistant mould or container.
Ensure that the liquid reaches height of around 4cm.
Leave to cool at room temperature for 30 mins.
Refrigerate for a further 1 hour and serve chilled.
