When tragedy strikes, Who ya gonna call? BU-DDHISM!
(Sorry, Zoomers. That's a Ghostbusters reference.)
Listen!
The 4 Noble Truths in Buddhism present the tradition's deepest teachings in the pithiest of packages, and after a recent FLOOD in my girlfriend's apartment...followed by a friend's medical emergency ON THE SAME DAY... I spent some time meditating on the 4 Noble Truths.
This video is a deep dive into:
1) There is "Dukkha"/suffering!
2) Suffering arises right alongside craving/"tanha"
3) Wait, you can deal with/manage/"nirodha" suffering??
4) Yes! With this 8fold path!!
Yes, we unpack the Four Noble Truths! Yes, we speak of grass, cows, cud, burgers, and both humankind and humanunkind!
Yes, we take a Zen approach to the problem of suffering, and explore how "making relationship" with life as it is, instead of fighting with our circumstances night and day, helps to cultivate what I call openings, or insights into the big picture that put our many problems squarely into perspective.
I hope you'll join me for this week's journey into Zen, flooding, heart attacks, and the Four Noble Truths.
