U-Haul demonstrates the importance of properly loading a trailer so that you can tow safely. In this video, you will learn it is important to load your heavier cargo towards the front of the trailer and less weight at the rear of your trailer. You will also learn what safety measures you can practice if you do lose control of a trailer.
If you are towing a trailer and it starts swaying, keep your hands securely on the steering wheel, take your foot off the gas and allow your vehicle to slow down naturally. Do NOT slam on the brakes or the gas pedal. Pullover in an area that is safely away from traffic and adjust the distribution of your cargo to put more weight in front, before continuing.
Remember: Heavy items upfront, secure your load, reduce your driving speed and always wear your seatbelt.
