STORYLINE:
The trial of five men charged with the fatal gang rape of a woman on a moving bus continued at Saket District Court in New Delhi on Thursday, with suspects indicted on 13 charges, including gang rape, murder and abduction.
If convicted, they could face the death penalty.
The rape victim's male companion said in an interview last month with Indian TV station Zee news, that passers-by refused to stop to help the naked, bleeding gang-rape victim after she was dumped from the bus onto a New Delhi street, and police delayed taking her to a hospital for 30 minutes.
The brutal attack set off nationwide protests about India's treatment of women and spurred the government to hurry through a new package of laws to protect them.
Meanwhile, a sixth suspect is set to be tried in a juvenile court and could face a maximum sentence of three years in a reform facility.
