Microsoft published a new policy for their software store, that led people to believe they wanted to ban free and open source software from it.

This policy was meant to fight the growing number of FOSS copycats, reusing branding for well known apps like GIMP or LibreOffice, and charging high amounts of money for them. Unfortunately, it was very unclear, and made people think Microsoft would prevent the sale of all open source software on the store.

Which would very negatively impact apps like Krita, who's paid for on the microsoft store, and apparently makes a nice chunk of their revenue from it.

A microsoft employee has since taken to twitter to explain that they'll pull the policy for now, while they clarify what they actually want to do.

They have to address some issues, like how an open source project could prove they're the "one true developer", or what "reasonable" pricing would be for a FOSS app. Once again, MS, try to be careful when addressing the FOSS community. A lot of people don't trust you, and moves like these are going to stick with you for years now, even if they end up being nothing at all
