On September 16th, 2015 Apple released the public version of iOS 9 for all iPads 2 and up and all iPad Minis 2 and up. The new iOS 9 software was announced at the 2015 WWDC keynote back in March 2015.
iOS 9 went through several developer betas as well as a few public betas before it was released to the public.
iOS 9 for the iPad also brought improvements to the “Hey Siri” feature for compatible iPads.
iOS 9 also came with some new features such as: Slide Over for using multiple apps at once, Split view for viewing two apps at the same time, Picture in picture for continuous watching a video while using another app, QuickType improvements, Maps app improvements, Redesigned Notes app, All-New News app, improvements to the Mail app and a new iCloud Drive app.
