Almond Milk
Almond milk is great for smoothies, breakfast cereals, coffee and even as a stand alone replacement for a glass of milk. When comparing almond milk vs cow milk, It has less calories than dairy milk and higher in Vitamin E, for a couple great almond milk benefits. Another big plus about almond milk is that it is easy to make at home, which makes it easy to control the flavor and ingredients. I love adding this to my smoothies in the morning and if you want more information about about smoothies, check out my free smoothie guide. I’ll link that guide in the description box below.
Cashew Milk
Cashew milk is creamier than almond milk with many of the same health benefits. Like almond milk, it’s easy to make at home. I’ll sometimes mix some cashews with water as a quick base for my smoothies. However, cashew milk is more versatile than almond milk. Since the flavor is more subtle than almond milk, it’s much easier to use in savory recipes.
Coconut Milk
Coconut milk is probably the most versatile of all the non-dairy milks on this list. It can used in smoothies, cheeses, sauces, savory dishes and more. It adds a great flavor to curry dishes with it’s favor and creaminess. I also make my own coconut milk at home, and use one ingredient...a coconut. I simply crack open a coconut and blend together the coconut water and coconut meat, making sure I get all the benefits while being a great source of electrolytes to help with muscle fatigue.
Soy Milk
Soy milk is probably the most popular non-dairy milk and has some health benefits when comparing soy milk vs cow milk. Since it’s made from soybeans, I would recommend you try and buy organic soy milk when possible or make sure it’s made from non-gmo soybeans. When comparing soy milk vs almond milk, soy milk does have more protein. Soy milk is also a heart healthy food and can also help with your blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
Oat Milk
Oat milk has a lot to offer. Now I will admit that I’ve never made oat milk at home, however, it does seem fairly easy to make. Now oat milk is higher in fiber and iron than some other non-dairy options and does have many of the same benefits as oats, such as lowering your cholesterol and helping with digestion. Now oats are naturally gluten-free, but as I’ve mentioned in previous videos, because of cross contamination they can’t be labeled as gluten free unless they are processed in a separate facility, so please be careful when purchasing.
In addition to these, there is also rice milk, hemp milk, macadamia milk, flax milk, and more. It’s good to have a balance and consume different types of non-dairy milk to make sure you are having all the different benefits found in each one.
