Reaching Net Zero carbon emissions for the UK by 2050 will mean sweeping changes in our habits and consumption. Trying to manage this in the context of a cost of living crisis, with electricity and gas bills rising rapidly, has raised many questions over our domestic energy strategy and the viability of carbon targets.

There seems to be cross-party support for Net Zero in the House of Commons. Is that in itself a problem? And should it be the people who decide, not our politicians?

Rt Hon Sir Vince Cable is former leader of the Liberal Democrat Party and served as Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills in the coalition government, and previously was the chief economist for Shell.

Richard Tice is leader of the Reform Party and has jointly launched a cross party campaign for a national debate and referendum on Net Zero plans alongside Nigel Farage. Previously, he was a member of the European Parliament for the East of England constituency.
