Orion Pulse 150i, pulse arc and resistance welder
A sharpened 1mm electrode is generally used for this type of application. At lower energy levels it can be very important to have a sharp and well maintained tip for proper weld actuation. We used an alligator clip ground. The electrode tip is usually extended from the nose cone between 1/8" and ¼" for best results. The Argon gas pressure is set to 10psi for the welds pictured.
The welds on along the inside edge of the cylinder are performed in Micro Mode at 29.5ws energy, 8ms length. Standard Plus ignition is used for the welds pictured, but Tip Saver mode can also be an acceptable sequence (helps reduce material transfer to the tip).
Several welds are placed along the inside edge for good strength; and a full "seam" look can be created by overlapping weld spots as desired.
Summary:
The Orion Pulse 150i can successfully weld the ring onto the cylinder without the need for weldments. The touch screen user interface allows operators to quickly dial in settings.
