Mercedes is giving the EQS a little twist for the 2025 model year. In doing so, the company injects some S-Class cues into its flagship electric car. Styling changes are limited to the front fascia, where the BMW i7 rival gets a redesigned faux grille with horizontal chrome slats to mimic the company's top-end internal combustion car.
The standing star is also new and echoes the bonnet ornament of the traditional S-Class. Going forward, the EQS will feature the AMG Line front bumper standard. Since this is just a makeover, the controversial egg-like shape remains. But even with this update, the EQS doesn't look as impressive as the venerable S-Class.
The interior remains largely unchanged, but Mercedes has added chrome accents to the air vents on the B-pillars. Additionally, the rear cushions now feature contrast stitching and Nappa leather strips. After adding 0.2 inches of foam to the rear seats, the rear seats will become a little more comfortable.
Inside the carefully revised body is an upgraded battery with a usable capacity of 118.0 kilowatt-hours instead of the previous 108.4 kilowatt-hours. This will unlock slightly more range over the 2024 EQS, which the EPA rates at 352 miles for the rear-wheel-drive EQS 450+. All-wheel drive EQS 450 and 580 models travel 345 miles on a single charge. The least efficient of the bunch is the AMG EQS, with just 305 miles.
The 2025 EQS can also transfer more power to its higher-capacity battery thanks to improved energy recovery through new software for the regenerative braking system. Since you'll be using the brake discs less than in a car with an internal combustion engine, pads are automatically applied to the discs occasionally as a form of maintenance.
Mercedes will launch the revised EQS in the United States later this year, with pricing to be announced in due course. If you settle for the EQS 450+, the current model sells for $104,400. Its all-wheel-drive sibling starts at $107,400, while the EQS 580 starts at $125,950. As for the AMG version, the sporty version will cost you $147,550.
